Experience Authentic Corsica

Wine connoisseurs should carry out a tasting of the rose wine with floral and fruit notes (Sciaccarelli), the red wine with the fragrance of fruit, licorice and violets (Niellucciu), the white wine with apple and almond fragrance (Vermentinu) as well as the fortified wines made of oranges, tangerines and plums.

You are also highly recommended to taste the mint, wild strawberry and chestnut liqueurs, the Corsican vodka called Aquavita (meaning ‘Life-giving water’), the essential refreshing water Orezza, Zilia and Saint George, and surely not forgetting the local chestnut beer.

At the restaurants and cafés you will be offered to taste a chestnut soup with onion and garlic served with a meat broth, different lamb dishes, panzetta bacon with an egg and roasted potatoes, scrambled eggs with mint and brocciu cheese, a wide range of delicious seafood, liver sausages grilled over an open fire and other dishes flavoured with local herbs as well as all kinds of desserts, pastries and chestnut side dishes.
The local markets will certainly provide you with the vivid impressions thanks to an abundance of seafood such as stingrays, tuna, trout, sardines, lobsters and delicious local meat products presented with summer sausages with pepper and spices, coppa ham, lonzu, prizuttu, figatellu liver sausages and others.
For the real foodies, there is the natural Corsican honey (with a selection of floral, chestnut, fruit and citrus ones) and finger-licking confitures (made of fig and citrus fruit). You will definitely grow fond of various pastries, local chestnut bread and Corsican olive oil.

Enjoy the beautiful and purest beaches such as Palombaggia, Santa Giulia, Pinarello and San Cipriano. Go for a pleasant walk to the pine forests, lakes, waterfalls and visit the golf courses (Golf de Lezza, Golf de Sperone). Steeped in history, Corsica will surely leave a lasting impression thanks to its numerous museums, citadels and ancient establishments like the Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, the Chapel of Santa Cruz and many others, a luxurious yacht parking, an impressive seaport with a lighthouse and jaw-dropping rocky spikes “Aiguilles de Bavella”.

– 30 km from Porto Vecchio is Bonifacio, a town situated on the rocks with plenty of historical monuments such as the Chapel Saint Roche (Chapelle-Saint-Roch), the Church of Saint Marie Major (Eglise de Sainte-Marie-Majeure), the famous Staircase of the King of Aragon (Escalier du roi d’Aragon), the observation deck overlooking the town and the straits between Bonifacio and Sardinia, the alleyway (rue du Palais de Garde).
– 110 km from Porto Vecchio is Corte which is the cultural capital of Corsica and is situated in the centre of the island.
– 130 km from Porto Vecchio is Bastia that is considered to be the commercial centre of Corsica.
– 140 km from Porto Vecchio is Ajaccio, the town where Napoleon was born. It is impossible to walk even a hundred metres without facing an image of Bonaparte. There you will find Napoleon’s grotto with a monument commemorating the capture of Moscow and the picturesque Sanguinaires (rocks of a red colour at sunset). The U Trinichellu is a Corsican tramway which connects Ajaccio and Calvi and also runs through Bastia and Corte.
– 200 km from Porto Vecchio is Calvi, a town that is supposed to be the birthplace of Christopher Columbus according to the legend.
